Hello, everyone. Due to recent global events, our school is closed for the remainder of the school year and that means we get to keep learning, just in a new way. I will be using Google Classroom as the conduit for communicating assignments, discussion questions, and more. Students may access Google Classroom at www.classroom.google.com and log in using their credentials provided in Technology class. If students need assistance retrieving login information or are new to our school, please email me at wcherekos@ballcharterschools.org and I will provide this information.

I urge you to log into Google Classroom this week and “check it out” so that you feel confident on Monday when I post assignments for the week. Students will be part of a classroom and a chat room, and will participate in discussions, read interesting stories and passages, and have some fun along the way.

As always, I am available via email with questions. Have a great day and I’ll “see” you in Google Classroom soon!

Best regards,

Mrs. Cherekos

Resources Update

Hello, everyone. With schools being closed as the state, nation, and globe fight COVID-19, you may find yourself thinking, "What would Mrs. Cherekos want me to do right now?" Well, I have the answer! Of course I do.

Now is a great time to read; read books, magazines, newspapers (those antiquated bundles of paper dropped in people's driveways), websites, graphic novels... You name it, there is so much to read!

You can also head over to my Links page and get clicking. You have access to Google Classroom, MobyMax, and much more!

Lastly, under the Students tab from the main page, you can access work assigned from the MyPerspectives textbook. If you don't have your textbook with you, that's okay. I have scanned the pages for you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Challenge: You know about primary sources and now is your chance to write a primary source! That's right, because you are living through a time that is historic and your perspective is important. I challenge you to journal or blog about what is going on right now as told only by you.
Here are some questions to consider: How do you feel? How are you spending your days and with whom are you spending them? What do you miss most about the "olden days" (you know, three weeks ago) and what do you love about our "new normal?" Does this inspire you to become a medical professional, a first responder, a government leader, a leader within your community? Have you noticed people doing nice things for others? What are you doing for your health?
There are so many directions your journal or blog can take and I look forward to seeing what you come up with (if you care to share).

However you spend this time, I hope you are well and that you are spending quality time with the people who matter most to you. Oh, and I hope you are reading something amazing!

Welcome to 6th Grade

The new school year is already off to a great start and I'm glad you stopped by the site to check things out! If you have not already, please visit www.SpellingCity.com/wcherekos and bookmark it. You may find this website not only helpful to you and your student, but also fun.

The Fall Festival is next month and the 6th Grade Team is already working on the basket to be raffled off at the fest. Our basket's theme is "Coffee on the Run" and we are very excited. If you would like to contribute coffee-related items or gift cards (Starbucks, Dunkin, Dutch Bros., QuikTrip, etc.), please send them in with your student and we will be happy to add them to our basket. It's going to be great!

Have a restful weekend.
