First Grade Online Work

•Naming/Writing Fractions

Please watch this video. Remember to remind your kiddos that the Numerator is on top and denominator is on the bottom. Sing this song… “Numerator, Numerator I’m so hot, I’m the number always on the top.” “Denominator, Denominator cool as can be, ‘D’ for down, that is me.” https://www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic/fraction-arithmetic/arith-review-fractions-intro/v/fraction-basics

Upon the completion of this video, please login onto this website below and complete the quiz/game. Note: you must first register. It will ask for an email and the a user name (please use first and last name of the student.) In addition, it will ask for a date of birth. ALL results will only be sent to Mr. Weller as I am the administrator. https://quizizz.com/join/

The password is 918776.

The students will have two attempts. Be careful as each question is timed. The faster they answer, the more points they can accumulate. However, I will just be checking on right or wrong answers.

This must be completed by April 28, 2020.

• Counting Coins up to a Dollar

Please watch the video below. We have previously introduced counting coins to First Grade but only dimes, nickels and pennies. This will introduce quarters. Get students to remember 25, 50, 75, 100. https://youtu.be/pJ8KwRztfF0

Upon the completion of this video, please login onto this website below and complete the quiz/game. Note: you will only have to register your information once, therefor if the first quiz was completed, it will remember your info. https://quizizz.com/join/

Third Grade Online Work
• Fractions on a Number line
Please have students watch the video link below from Khan Academy. Fractions on a number line is one of the most important performance objectives covered in Math for the third grade. Please tell students to “Count the Spaces…Not the lines.”
Upon the completion of this video, please login onto this website below and complete the quiz/game. Note: you must first register. It will ask for an email and then a username (please use first and last name of the student.) In addition, it will ask for a date of birth. ALL results will only be sent to Mr. Weller as I am the administrator.

This must be completed by April 28, 2020.
• Converting Fractions: Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions and Improper Fractions to Mixed Numbers.
Please have students watch the first Khan Academy video “Writing Mixed Numbers as Improper Fractions.” Note: this video demonstrates visually. Remind students to multiply denominator by the whole number then add the numerator to become your new numerator. *Remember the denominator always stays the same.
The second video “Writing Improper Fractions as Mixed Numbers” remember to remind students “The numerator is how many ice cubes you have, the bottom number is how many your trey will hold.” If you have 9/4…that means you have 9 ice cubes and each try holds 4 ice cubes. How many treys can you fill up? The answer is 2. Do you have any left over? The answer is 1. Therefor we have 2 ¼. *Remember the denominator always stays the same.
Upon the completion of the videos, please login onto this website below and complete the quiz/game. Note: you will only have to register your information once, therefor if the first quiz was completed, it will remember your info.
The password is 761622.

• Review: Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Decimals.
Students need to watch the Khan Academy Videos on the links below. Remember when you add/sub decimals, we need to line up the decimal points. When you multiply decimals, remember…like Mr. Falgione says, “How many total digits are behind the decimal in the entire problem and how many total digits should be behind the decimal in the entire answer?” When you divide decimals, remember you cannot have any decimals in the divisor (the number we divide by). If you do, you must move the decimal to the right until it is a whole number. *You must also move your decimal point in the dividend (the amount you want to divide up) the same amount of times. For example 92 ÷ 2.3 converts to 920 ÷ 23.
Upon the completion of the videos, please login onto this website below and complete the quiz/game. Note: you will only have to register your information once, therefor if the first quiz was completed, it will remember your info.

• Classifying Polynomials

There are two ways that we classify polynomials. First, by the highest degree (biggest exponent) and second by the number of terms. Please watch each of these videos. I encourage you to take notes. You should understand what “Standard Form” is. In addition, you should be familiar with (Constant, linear, quadratic, cubic, quartic and quantic.) You should also understand what a (monomial, binomial, trinomial and polynomials) are.

• Adding and Subtracting Polynomials

When adding and subtracting polynomials remember to distribute a negative when you subtract. For example: (3x3 – 4x2 + 5x) – (3x2 – 7x) turns into (3x3 – 4x2 + 5x) + (-3x2 + 7x). Note how I converted the second expression by distributing the negative sign and added an addition sign between the expressions. Now simply combine “like terms.” Answer: 3x3 -7x2 + 12x.
